Where is your fifteen minutes hiding?

Before The House Wakes

The stillness that lives in the first minutes of the day.

Before anyone needs you, there is a window, even ten minutes, that belongs to no one but you and God. It does not have to be silent outside for it to be silent inside. Claim the first minutes before the day claims you.

"My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up."

Psalm 5:3, KJV

The Car, Before You Turn The Key

The stillness that lives in the space between destinations.

You do not have to arrive somewhere to enter the Secret Place. The car, before the engine starts, is already a room with a door. Sit in it. Let the silence catch up to you before the errands do.

"In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength."

The Shower, The Sink, The Dishes

The stillness that hides inside the tasks no one interrupts.

Some rooms are already sacred and you have not noticed. The running water, the repetitive motion, the moments no one can reach you. These were never wasted time. They were rehearsal for the stillness you are learning now.

"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."

After Everyone Is Asleep

The stillness that lives at the far edge of the day.

You may be too tired for anything but this: sitting in the dark, letting the day fall off you. That is enough. You do not need words tonight. You only need to stay in the room a little longer than you planned.

"I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety."
